Building with AI

One button was reason enough.

Why I built my own teleprompter app, and how it reached the App Store in six days.

It started with my daughter's birthday. I want to ask her the same 10 to 15 questions every year and keep the videos. Over the years it becomes an archive of how she grows up.

For that I needed a teleprompter and a camera in one app. The ones I tried wanted a subscription, had confusing buttons and were just uncomfortable to use. Maybe that's subjective, but I didn't like them.

I once heard someone on a podcast say that one button you don't like is already a reason to build your own app. I loved that.

So I built ReadCam Prompter with my AI agents. The first commit was on October 9. Six days later it was live on the App Store. It now has more than 70 commits.

It's free for now, with no subscription. Your text scrolls over the live camera, and you record while you read. It works with a script in any language.

Honestly, nothing about it was hard.

I don't know who uses it yet. But I've already had a few messages saying it's a great app and that they'd been looking for exactly this.

How I automated the whole process, from writing the code to releasing it on the App Store, deserves its own post. That one is next.
